Monday shopping.

Hello Friends!

Today, is laundry day and grocery shopping day.

I went into 3 shops. First to Action to get peanuts for the birds 🦅 more sweets for Halloween  and balloons to tie to the gate, a basket to stock my winter scarves near my coats downstairs( not going up and down too much)

Then to a shop where you can buy local food.

After that I went to Lidl to get fruits and vegetables for the week.

On Saturday my husband bought a second book vase.

We waited to stay in the shop tea room but the owner was very sick with COVID NOT wearing a mask 😷 as I can’t be vaccinated again ( last vaccination I had heart problems 

Pericarditis ) so no more vaccine for me.

So I did not go in the shop only my husband 

We had a drink in another not too crowded place. 

We are having COVID back and avian influenza! Lots of birds already died on their migration routes. Domestic birds are locked down.

I also found new yarn 🧶 at Action and three white Amaryllis at the same shop at a very good price!

 On Wednesday I will have the locksmith our front door being blocked for two weeks we go out by a window ( French window) they could not come before.

Now the washing machine is working, I have put away the food in the fridge and cupboards and I am relaxing reading my book 📖!

My favourite book.

Hello Friends!

 Yesterday the weather was not too bad so as usual we went to our favourite little town of Louviers.

We first went to our favourite big book shop because last week I had seen the book in English “Girl with a pearl earring” from Tracy Chevalier.

I have already read it in French I have the DVD but it’s the 20th anniversary of the edition. I have read most of her books, all of her books! But it is different to read a book in the original version.

I started it this morning before getting up.

Her father was a tile maker and this reminded me of the two tiles I had bought in the Netherlands in an antique shop.

Unfortunately I broke one and tried to mend it.

These are the two tiles. I love the intense blue.

On our shopping errands I found a new coat and in the same shop found this brooch.

I associated it with the new snood I have just knitted 

 I am changing size and change most of my wardrobe.

Today the weather is cold but we have sun 🌞 I have opened all the windows! Mr L is in the garden cutting branches fallen on the ground during the storm.

It will be a quiet Sunday.

Dear Friends!

The storm is over. In fact it was worse on the coast. We had heavy rain and strong winds but not as long as predicted fortunately!

In 1999 just the day after Christmas we had a terrible storm winds over 200 km/h or 124 miles /h and there had been a lot of damages  in the country but only our garden shed went up and down! I saw it!

I thought the roof would come off so I woke the family up to go downstairs it was terrifying this is why I am very scared when there is a coming storm bad souvenirs!

Well, only branches on the ground here, our trees have survived fortunately!

Soon it will be Halloween 👻 and I must get sweets for the children. It’s quite an organisation. As our gate is far from our home I put orange ballons on the gate and little sweets bags I prepare protected in a bigger bag from the rain and tied to our gate, they just help themselves ( not too much leaving for others) I put a note and it goes very well. Last year I had a note in my mail box the children asked me not to forget the sweets “ please don’t forget the sweets “🍭 so I’ll be busy 😂!

Tonight is Friday pizza evening, no cooking!

Tomorrow we are going out on some errands and have tea to a new concept store and tea room we discovered last Saturday. It will be a rainy weekend but we are Normand and get use to it 😂 we will take our umbrella ☔️!

Ready for cold weather!🌦️

Hello Friends!

Before another internet and power cut and as I can’t go out I went through my drawers and took out winter mittens head band and hats.

The wind started early this morning with the first power cut. The bridges are closed, the trains are stopped and by the shores the wind blew at 150 km/hour.

It will get stronger by the shores and as we are only 70 km from the sea it will get stronger during the day.

There are already broken trees on the roads.

A scarf I did not remember I knitted it a long time ago.

 These are mittens and head band I bought in Belgium ( Bruges) last Spring. It is a very small shop with a lot of knitted hands, mittens and scarves all hand knitted. They are displayed by colours and it is very nice. It is called “Marie Brat”.

Some views from this beautiful town I like to go. Each time we go to the Netherlands 🇳🇱 we go by Bruges  a wonderful place!

I will stay at home waiting for the end of the storm ⛈️ Autumn is here! And cold is arriving by the end of the week! 161kmh wind on our coast in Normandy today!

Preparing for storm!

 Hello Friends!

Today, we are preparing ourselves to face what they call “ a meteorological bomb” ! The name itself is scary 😧! It comes from Great Britain and is called Benjamin.

Heavy rain, high waves, strong winds… the trees having not lost their leaves, many will be uprooted or broken.

It will start tonight and we are preparing  ourselves. Better stay inside reading with a cup of coffee ☕️ and we already took away what could be lifted by the wind outside. See you later with good news I hope!

Hello Friends!

This morning the weather is fine, but it won’t last we will have soon rain.

This morning I had to use some pears 🍐 I had in my kitchen and decided to have a look for a light muffin pear recipe on the net.

So first I baked my muffins and now they are ready for Mr L. The last night pie was delicious it was a creation of mine using what I had in the fridge. Chicken, endives and onions.🧅 

This is a vintage “Bol” here we drink our morning coffee in such a Bol.they must be back to the 50’s

I found this plate and had a similar one when I was a child.

One of my teachers pot a Christmas one I bought years ago in England it is a Sadler one and is numbered.

 Now I must go and get ready to go shopping 🛒 as I forgot something as usual even when I make a shopping list…

Autumn cooking day.

Hello Friends !

Today is cooking day.

I am using onions from Brittany ( from the town of Roscoff)  they are very sweet and tasty and very special!

I only find them at Lidl. I have spent vacations in Roscoff 

And we went to the museum of the Johnnies.

The Johnnies were men from this town who took the ferry (Brittany Ferries) from Roscoff to England their bikes loaded with onions.🧅 from Roscoff to Plymouth where they use to sell their onions.

This morning I used my Romertopf to cook chicken with onions and Brandy. There is no alcohol when it cooks only a very good taste!

I added braised endives.

This is the finished pie, chicken, onions, braised endives and Brandy 🥃 

 These are my special onions!

Today, we will have another storm and thunder, I think now we must get used to that kind of weather.

It will be a rainy week, but never mind plenty of to do inside!
